How does your period cramp relief device work?
Sens.U’s period cramp relief device is the first device of its kind, combining TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) and far-infrared heat technologies to deliver instantaneous, targeted symptomatic relief from menstrual pain. It does this by applying a gentle electrical current along with emitting far infrared light which causes the muscles in the uterine area to relax, resulting in a calming analgesic effect.
How does TENS work?
TENS, short for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, is a technology that helps with pain relief.
It sends tiny electrical currents between two special pads (Wings) which are placed on your skin, over the nerve roots responsible for providing sensory feedback from your uterus.
This blocks pain signals from reaching your brain, making the muscles in your belly area relax, resulting in a nice soothing feeling.
How does far-infrared heat work?

Are there any side effects?
Our period pain relief device is a non-invasive, drug-free pain management solution that has been used for decades in medical and recreational settings. The risk of adverse side effects is considered low.
Mild skin irritation may occur in response to electrical stimulation. This is a normal reaction, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
The Wing Gels included with your device are medical grade. In the rare instance you may be allergic to the gels, please be aware of the following ingredients: Crosslinked acrylic resin, Polyhydric alcohol, Electrolytic salt, Additives (stabiliser etc.), De-ionised water.
If skin irritation persists or worsens, we advise that you stop using our device and consult your doctor. Our device should only be used on healthy, intact skin.
The long-term effects of TENS stimulation and infrared light therapy are unknown. However, TENS machines and infrared light therapy have been around since the 1980s.
How often can I use the device?
Our period pain relief device can be used as much as you like. If you do feel discomfort or itchiness, we suggest taking small breaks or placing our device in different areas. Everybody is different, so see how you feel!
Can you use different body pulses on different areas of the body?

An electrical current sounds like it will hurt?
Don’t worry, our device doesn’t hurt at all. It feels like a gentle pulsing or tingling sensation. You can also adjust the intensity using the up/down buttons on the Controller. The best comparison we’ve heard about the pulses is that it feels like a phone buzzing in your pocket!
Can I use the device if I'm pregnant?
We do not advise the use of our period pain relief device to anyone who is pregnant. Store it in a safe place in the included carry bag and save it for later!
Will the device impact my fertility?
Our device has no effect on fertility and is safe to use whilst trying to conceive. Our period pain relief device is simply a TENS + heating machine. You have nothing to worry about.
I have an IUD, is the device safe for me?
We do not advise the use of our period pain relief device on the belly or lower back to anyone who is using a copper IUD.
However, you can still use our device on other areas of your body! If you are using a synthetic IUD, our device is absolutely safe to use! It can also help with cramps associated with IUDs.
However, if you’re unsure, we always recommend checking with your doctor to be certain.
Is there an age limit for using this?
Not at all! Our period cramp relief device is suitable for all age groups.
Although higher TENS settings may be too intense for children under the age of 8.

How do I turn the device on?
When using your period pain relief device for the first time you’ll have to pair the Sensate with the Remote Control. To do this:
- Hold Sensate on/off switch for 6 seconds until the Sensate indicator light flashes white
- Hold Controller on/off switch for 6 seconds until treatment area switch light flashes white
- Wait 1 second until both white lights stop flashing To turn your period pain relief device on every time after that, hold down the power button on the Controller for 3 seconds until the white light turns on. Now you can adjust the intensity of the pulses and temperature of the heat until you find your desired level of pain relief. There are 15 levels of TENS intensity and 3 temperature levels in total.
Where can I use the device?
Our device can be used to deliver relief across five areas:
- The belly;
- The waist;
- The lower back;
- The shoulder; and
- The leg
When it comes to alleviating period pain, many users have reported the most effective relief by placing the device lower down. However, everyone’s unique, so this may not be the perfect place for you, and that’s absolutely fine. There are several nerves that supply the uterine area that may be responsible for your pain, so we suggest moving the device around a bit until you find the right spot for you.
Always remember to only apply the device to normal, unbroken, clean and healthy skin. Never apply stimulation to open wounds, rashes, inflamed or infected skin areas
WARNING: While it’s tempting to use our period pain relief device on all areas of your body, using it on your neck, chest, thorax and/or face can be dangerous.
How long does the battery last?
A fully charged battery should last for a maximum of 12 hours on the lowest TENS setting and 2.5 hours on the lowest heat setting. You’ll know when your device is fully charged when the Sensate indicator light turns blue.
If you choose a higher TENS intensity, the battery won’t last as long, but you should still get about 8 hours of pain relief. Similarly, if you choose a higher heat setting, the battery won’t last as long, but you should still get about 1 hour of pain relief.
The Sensate indicator light will flash blue when the battery is running low. Once it’s out of juice, charge your period pain relief device using the USB cable provided until the blue light stops flashing – this should take approximately 2 hours
How long does a set of Wing Gels last?
You can use your Wing Gels multiple times until it loses its adhesiveness. This usually happens after 8-10 uses.

How do i replace the Wing Gels?
- Make sure the device is switched off.
- Remove the old Wing Gels from the Wings by rubbing and gently rolling the used gel off the Wings. Do not excessively bend the Wings.
- Wipe away any remaining excess gel with a slightly damp cloth and wipe completely dry. Do not use any harsh cleaning agents.
- Prepare your new Wing Gels by removing the blue protective film first.
- Then place the exposed sticky side of the Wing Gel onto the Wing. Press firmly to secure.
- Lightly squeeze any large air bubbles located between Wing Gels and Wings outward as if applying a screen protector.
- Remove the clear protective film and place on your skin or the Wing Plate

How do I clean /store the device?
After using the device, be sure to reattach the Wings onto the Wing Plate provided to preserve the stickiness of the Wing Gels.
You can also store your device in the pouch provided to prevent sunlight damage or dust build up.
Finally, we recommend cleaning your device once a month using a damp cloth with a gentle soap and water solution.
Troubleshooting
My device keeps turning off/ doesn’t hold charge?
Try the following fixes:
- Have you fully charged your device until the blue light is showing before using it? Try recharging again for a couple hours – make sure the USB charger is properly connected to a power source.
- Are both Wings attached properly?
If your period pain relief device still isn’t working, don’t worry. You’re covered under our 18-month warranty. Just email us at hi@sensu.au and we’ll organise a replacement for you.
The Wings are not working?
Try the following fixes:
- Double check that the white light is on. If it’s not on, your device is not switched on.
- Are both wings attached to your body? Our device is electrical which means it needs a closed/complete circuit to work.
- Try repositioning the device to see if it’s a placement issue.
- Try increasing the intensity. Everyone and every part of the body is different, so sensation from one person or one body part may be different from another.
- Still nothing? Email us at hi@sensu.au and we’ll process a replacement for you.
I can't feel any pulses or heat?
Try the following fixes:
- Double check that the white light is on. If it’s not on, your device is not switched on.
- Try recharging the device. The heating function requires more battery energy than TENS so your device may have enough juice for TENS but not for heat.
- Are both wings attached to your body? Our device is electrical which means it needs a closed/complete circuit to work.
- Try repositioning the device to see if it’s a placement issue.
- Try increasing the intensity. Everyone and every part of the body is different, so sensation from one person or one body part may be different from another.
